What is a "Quantum Mechanical Tarot" reading?
This web page lets you perform a tarot reading with a tarot deck that is shuffled using
True Random numbers generated by a
Quantum Random Number Generator, instead of a
Pseudorandom numbers generated by a computer program.
What is the difference between Pseudorandom, True Random, and Quantum Mechanically Random?
A
pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) uses a predictable computer program to generate numbers.
These programs are useful, but they are still synthetic, deterministic, and not truly random.
Most online tarot readings use this method, and some do it very crudely, hoping users do not recognize how lousy they do it.
A
true random number generator (TRNG) use an unpredictable physical means to generate numbers, for example rolling dice, or a coin flip.
Regular, everyday events are not very practical to generate large numbers of very random data.
A
quantum random number generator (QRNG) uses shielded, unobserved, honest to goodness Quantum Mechanical events to generate the
True Random
numbers that are Quantum Mechanical in nature.
Don't let the word 'mechanical' mislead you, they are as mechanical as The Universe is, which is an utterly mercurial 'machine'.
How do you get the numbers?
The numbers used in Quantum Mechanical Tarot are obtained electronically from a
PicoQuant PQRNG 150 Quantum Random Number Generator.
These devices are built for things like selecting cheat-proof winning lottery numbers, and generating extremely secure computer encryption.
The PQRNG 150 is a high quality, modern
QRNG. It is a real, physical machine, about the size of a breadbox.
It uses light, or specifically photons, which are handy, and fantastic at generating pure Quantum Mechanical effects.
It can generate loads of numbers very quickly, more than enough for this whole website.
Do you really use those numbers?
Yes. Every single shuffle uses random numbers generated by a PQRNG 150. The numbers are only used once.
After a set of random numbers are used to shuffle a deck, they are thrown away for good, and separately generated numbers are used for the next shuffle.
Your shuffle is yours.
This site does not give detailed interpretations of its readings, why?
QMT takes the place of a tarot deck, not a Reader, sorry. But it isn't as pointless as some might think. Self readings are great.
Only the querent can truly interpret their cards, a Reader is a knowledgeable guide. What it means to you
is what it means.
There are many great sources of information out there if you desire a deeper interpretation than what strikes you. But all you
really need is a clear mind, and your own intuition.
This site provides some basic information about each card.
The archetypal themes of Major Arcana cards are stated, and Minor Arcana cards have their suit meaning and numerology briefly mentioned, but that is all.
Quantum Mechanical Tarot is aware this will be insufficient for many casual users. There are other sites that do give interpretations, if you want that.
QMT believes it is necessary to respect the limitations imposed by online tarot readings
in order to remain as true as possible to presenting a genuine experience
without compromising the integrity of what tarot readings can be.
Why should Quantum Mechanics matter in tarot readings?
At the very least, there is real statistical proof
QRNG generated numbers are superiorly random. That is a fact.
This is conjecture; the data used to shuffle the decks, and the state of the deck as presented to the querent, may exist in Quantum Superposition until a querent selects their cards.
There are as yet unsettled interpretations of Quantum Mechanics which suggest this may be so. Science does not yet know enough to say.
It is the position of QMT that the shuffled decks, as presented here, are in Quantum Superposition.
More interestingly, and again, this is conjecture, there is also the possibility that a template of overarching Universal patterns of causality could be imprinted in
them that makes their use in divination more meaningful.
Reality is made of Quantum Mechanics.
The Quantum Theory of Consciousness proposes our mind is a Quantum Mechanical state.
It is therefore compelling to think consciousness is in tune with, and the events that unfurl in our lives are determined by, Quantum Mechanics.
Everyone is struggling to explain the haunting sense of metaphysical connections, and patterns of events that defy coincidence.
Science struggles to explain the bafflingly absurd, counterintuitive, elusively secretive nature of Quantum Mechanics.
If you study both, there are very obvious and eerie similarities, and many people have surmised that there is a connection.
Are the numbers generated right when I play?
No, the numbers are generated in batches and stored. The randomness is preserved just fine. If the data exists in Quantum Superposition, then that too, according to the
The Von Neumann–Wigner interpretation, is preserved, because it is not observed
by a consciousness.
The numbers do not need to be, and intentionally never are, looked at by anyone, until a querent requests them and observes them.
Is this all baloney, and it's really just the same as every other online tarot reading?
No. Deliberate effort was made to use the QRNG data in it's pure, unobserved state with extremely high randomness.
This site was engineered with care and belief that it has a very valid reason to be built how it is, and that the Quantum Mechanical nature of the data
used makes a real difference.
But of course, as with tarot itself, it depends on what you believe.
